This is part 1 of a 3 blog post series where I will write about a combination of working from home howto, SEO and affiliate marketing. I'm married with two kids and we're a single income family . I work and my wife is a stay at home mom. I prefer that she stays with the kids, but recently we needed additional income because my checks weren't paying all the bills. One of the ways I decided to bring in additional income was to push products from, specifically Wii accessories. I built a site called using the Drupal CMS to make adding content and products easy.  The site is easy enough for my wife to maintain. Her work at home job is find Wii and Wii U accessories from Amazon and other sites and then post them on our site. If you haven't heard of affiliate sites before, let me give you a quick run down of what it is. Affiliate marketing is completely free and if any site requires you to pay to push their products, then it's a scam. Affiliate marketing pays you a referral free every time someone goes to your site, clicks on one of the products and purchases it. It doesn't cost the person buying the product anymore then it would if they went directly to the site. For example, if Amazon has a product for $20 and someone buys it through your site, Amazon will pay you roughly $1.20. Not bad for doing nothing, right? :) If someone goes directly to Amazon and buys that product, it'll cost them the same amount, but no one will earn a commission. So that's affiliate marketing in a nutshell.

Back to - the site is built and has been live for a couple of weeks now. I'm starting to see some traffic trickle in, but I haven't seen any commissions from Amazon yet. A site could take up to 6 months to start producing commissions so please have some patience as it will eventually come. One of the biggest mistakes people make when trying out affiliate marketing is thinking they'll make money the first day. It just doesn't work that way, at least it hasn't for me. I've tried to help out friends and family with affiliate sites, but they give up after a couple of weeks. What makes a site work is to constantly add new content. With, we try to add as many products as we can every week. The ultimate goal is to make money and the way to do that is getting your site on the first or second page of the search engines for your focus keywords. In my next post I'll write about how I optimized so that it'll hopefully show up on the SERPs for my focus keywords.

It's quite in here! Why not leave a response?
